A delay in riverfront market plans in Ashland
Federal money already won by the city cannot be used to develop the market.

Ashland’s plans for a riverfront market in the city transportation center have taken a hit after the US Department of Transportation denied Ashland’s request to use 200-thousand dollars in grant money for the project. It will instead be used to renovate the center’s second floor. That means the city will have to apply for more funds again at the end of the year. Ashland is hoping to renovate the first floor warehouse of the transportation center into a farmer’s market with other food and possible wine merchants, much like Charleston’s Capital Market.
